Privacy Policy for Safe Dist
Last Updated: September 03, 2026
Welcome to Safe Dist. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains the types of permissions our application requests and how we use the information to provide you with a safe driving experience.
1. Information Collection and Use
To provide core functionalities such as distance measurement, voice alerts, and speed tracking, Safe Dist requires specific device permissions. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. All real-time processing happens locally on your device whenever possible.
We request the following permissions on Android (and equivalent permissions on iOS):
- Camera Permission (
CAMERA):
Purpose: This is the core permission required for the app to function. The camera captures a real-time feed of the road ahead to detect vehicles and calculate the distance between your car and the objects in front of it. Video processing is performed locally to trigger alerts (when distance is under 50m) and is not uploaded to our servers. - Microphone Permission (
RECORD_AUDIO):
Purpose: Required for dashcam video recording features (if you choose to record your trip with audio) and to enable voice-related functionalities within the app. - Location Permissions (
ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION,ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION):
Purpose: We access your GPS location to accurately calculate your vehicle's moving speed (in km/h). This helps the app calibrate warnings based on how fast you are traveling. - Media & Storage (
READ_MEDIA_IMAGES,READ_MEDIA_VIDEO,READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED):
Purpose: Allow the app to access, display, and manage the trip photos or dashcam videos you have saved on your device, ensuring compliance with Android 13+ Scoped Storage guidelines. - Foreground Services (
FOREGROUND_SERVICE,MEDIA_PROJECTION):
Purpose: Safe Dist needs to run continuously in the background to monitor distance and speed while you are using navigation apps (like Maps) or when the screen is off.
2. External Hardware Support
Safe Dist is designed to work with various driving setups, including Android Car, Android Box, and external USB cameras. The app uses hardware features (android.hardware.camera.external, android.hardware.usb.host) to seamlessly connect and process visual data from these external devices locally.
3. Data Security
We implement commercially reasonable security measures to protect the information processed by our app. The core distance calculation AI runs directly on your device, meaning the visual data of the road does not need to be transmitted over the internet to function, thereby maximizing your privacy.
4. Children's Privacy
Safe Dist is a driving assistance application intended for use by licensed drivers. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. You are advised to review this page periodically for any changes.
